In the lead up to the premiere of ARCTIC AIR Adam was doing a lot of press. He managed to grab an eight minute segment on the CBC National News with Peter Mansbridge. I was able to get a clip of it plus screencaps. I wasn’t able to grab the short that was on the National’s website where Adam mentioned his favourite scene from the pilot. It happened to be the one where Bobby and Krista (Pascale Hutton) were sitting by the lake talking about nature. Also, I’m in the process of getting the screencaps of the first five episodes done. While I did plan on posting the full episodes, I’ve decided to do that after the series ends. For now the interview with Adam where he talks about his career and his life including missing his parents, talking about ARCTIC AIR and there is also a bit with Adam’s kids Luke, Noah and Phoenix. Adam also discussed his plans on visiting the Attawapiskat community where the Native populations live in squallid conditions. Also discussed was Adam’s intervention in the proposed pipeline that would run through Native lands to provide the Chinese ready made oil from the tar sands in Canada.
I’ve added the new DREAMCATCHER press section with one article on Adam. It’s a must read. An excerpt of the article below the cut.
[ 001 ] PRESS: PERSONAL STRUGGLES INSPIRE “ARCTIC AIR’S” ADAM BEACH
“That’s a past that I kind of keep to myself. I’ve dealt with it to a certain level, but when you have to reveal it again, it’s like breaking an egg and having to put it back together when the day’s done.”
Beyond this conversation, there’s no indication of Beach’s personal demons as he tours the set, cracking jokes and holding the hand of co-star Leah Gibson, who plays Candi Lussier, a front-desk clerk at the Frontier Hotel who is hoping one of the visiting businessmen might be her ticket out of Yellowknife – booming or not.
But he gets serious again when he talks about the heritage he shares with his character.
About the ARCTIC AIR media. I’ve been having computer problems for the past week. I’m hoping things are settled. I’m hoping to get the first five episodes done by the end of the weekend. Fingers crossed.
Well isn’t ARCTIC AIR really heating up? I loved Vancouver Is Such A Screwed Up City. Adam did an amazing job with it…as always. For the most part it was a funny episode. Loved Timothy Webber as Cece and his karaoke in the kilt. So funny. I also loved Steven Lobo as Dev. Too funny. Didn’t you feel for Bobby? I did. He finds out his ex isn’t pregnant with his child afterall and when it looks like he will finally be able to admit his feelings for Krista (Pascale Hutton) she goes and breaks his heart. I’m sad for Bobby. Anyway here is the promo for the next episode, E1X08 The Professional. Enjoy.
I have the promo for this week’s upcoming episode of ARCTIC AIR. The title of the episode is Vancouver Is Such A Screwed Up City and features a former flame of Bobby’s who has come back to Yellowknife with a secret.
According to the trades, COMBAT HOSPITAL won’t be back on ABC next year due to low ratings. This flies in the face of the Canadian ratings in which the show is doing quite well. Considering that this show is a Canada/Britain co-production, it doesn’t need the typical “Hollywood” backing to make it successful. I’m truly hoping Global (a subsidiary of Shaw Media) decides to go forward with a second season. It was also reported that the third episode featuring Adam’s character of Snake Eater, and we finally found out he has a real name in Joe suspects that a school for children is being used as an Taliban recruitment base, is not going to run on ABC. Dare I say that this show is far too controversial and far too telling of the realities of the war in Afghanistan? It also doesn’t show the Americans in a good light considering they interrogate children? Okay, off the soapbox. I’ll be back with the screencaps and clip from this later.
Adam appeared in Canadian director Neil Diamond’s documentary REEL INJUN that aired on the premiere CBC magazine show The Passionate Eye. The documentary focused in on the perception of the First Nations peoples as they’ve been depicted in the films of Hollywood. It is an interesting view on a grossly misrepresented segment of society who Adam states in the documentary:
“We’ll never be able to change the fantasy of who and what Indians are. That fantasy will always be there, we will always be on the cover of novels saying ‘Cheyenne Warrior’!”
The clip will only include Adam’s portion. To view the entire film, please go to the CBC’s official site HERE and to read more on the film, go to the film’s Official Site. You might notice the set where Adam recorded his portion. It’s the 16th Precinct from LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT where Adam played the part of Detective Chester Lake for 21 episodes. Talk about the ultimate sterotyping of the Native American.
Welcome to DREAMCATCHER ~ ADAM BEACH ONLINE, a website dedicated to First Nations actor and activist Adam Beach. I hope you enjoy your stay and make this your first thought for anything on Adam and his career. I still have so much more to get up in this site so I’m going to beg your indulgence. If you’re visiting here from the previous site wondering what’s going on, the gallery in the old site was compromised and I had to recreate it. I decided to give the site its own home and so here it is. Feel free to browse the gallery as you did before. I hope you like the new site…I know I do. I’m in the process of getting some of Adam’s other work into the gallery, so again I beg your indulgence. If you’d like to leave a comment, click below where it says NO COMMENTS. I’ve decided to moderate first posts. If you come back again and again, you won’t face this…unless you’re deliberately spamming. I hope you won’t.
